MEMBERSHIP

Joining Beta Alpha Psi – Epsilon Alpha provides you with numerous benefits, and membership is highly recommended to any accounting students that are serious about their future career. As a member of Beta Alpha Psi, you will receive access to dozens of unique opportunities, including:

  • Networking opportunities with professionals and recruiters in and around the Portland area

  • Hands-on professional development opportunities 

  • An immediate peer network of like-minded support for your time at Portland State (and beyond!)

  • Lifetime membership in Beta Alpha Psi and all of the benefits provided therein

MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS

If you are interested in joining BAP, first you must become a candidate and then you must meet the membership initiation requirements: ​

1. Become a Candidate: In order to become a member of Beta Alpha Psi, you must first become a candidate. In order to become a Candidate, you must meet the following requirements: 

  • Declared (or intention to declare) concentration in accounting, finance, or information systems

  • Submit a membership application

  • Complete a group orientation with our membership team

  • Pay Chapter Dues 

2. Complete Initiation Requirements: You must fulfill all of the following initiation requirements within 2 consecutive terms after you become a candidate: ​

I.   Upper level Accounting GPA of 3.0 or above AND Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above 

Note: Your Accounting GPA on your DARS report does not reflect your upper level accounting GPA. Your upper level accounting GPA should only include 300+ level accounting classes. Please take this into consideration when determining if you meet this requirement. 

II.  Completion of ONE of the following courses: ACTG 335, ACTG 360, ACTG 381, FIN 319, or FIN 352

 

III. Completion of 12 Professional and 12 Service Hours:

12 Professional Hours: ​Earned by participation in BAP sponsored meetings, events, workshops, networking opportunities, and/or career development. Examples include: Weekly Meetings, the Spring Networking Social, Meet the Firms, resume critiques & mock interviews, recruiting workshops, etc.

12 Service Hours: Earned by participation in BAP sponsored volunteer activities and events benefiting the greater community. Examples include: volunteering and holding leadership positions within BAP, AARP Tax-Aide/CASH Oregon program, participating in a BAP case competition, hosting chapter events, etc. Special volunteer events will change regularly and be announced in advance.

Note: ​These hours represent totals over the course of your two-terms as a candidate, and can be accumulated from the moment you join BAP as a candidate to the final day of your second term (Summer excluded). 

 

3. Attend Initiation Ceremony: After meeting the above requirements, the last step will be attending an initiation ceremony to be a full member of Beta Alpha Psi!

how can i get involved with bap?

Your level of participation in BAP can be as simple as attending meetings! You do not have to be a member to attend BAP events. However, we highly suggest becoming a member to take full advantage of the various leadership opportunities available to members, like joining a department to help run our organization!

how do i record my hours?

if i start my candidacy in the middle of the term will i have less time to become a member?

No, your two terms to complete the membership requirements start when you become a candidate. For example, if you become a candidate during week 5 of fall term you have until week 5 of Spring term to complete membership requirements.

If you are attending a BAP sponsored event, please sign the attendance sheet so that we can easily track your hours.

If you forgot to sign in, or you want to report hours spent working for a BAP department or personal volunteering hours, please fill out this form with all applicable information.
